Image Size Optimization Guide
How to optimize image dimensions and file size for the web and storage: resolution, aspect ratio, and tools.
Image size optimization means both dimensions (width and height) and file size (bytes). For the web, use the smallest dimensions that still look sharp on screen—often 1200–1600px on the long side for full-width images.
Aspect ratio matters for layout and cropping. Common ratios include 16:9 for video thumbnails, 4:5 for social posts, and 1:1 for avatars. Resize before upload when you know the target size to avoid storing unnecessarily large files.
Optimize file size by choosing the right format (e.g., WebP or JPEG for photos) and quality level. Then upload to a host that keeps your images organized and accessible, such as Image Store, so you can reuse them across projects.
