PNG vs JPG vs WebP
Compare PNG, JPG, and WebP: when to use each format for photos, graphics, and the web.
JPG (JPEG) is best for photos and complex images where small file size matters. It uses lossy compression, so quality drops slightly at lower settings. PNG supports transparency and lossless compression, making it ideal for logos, icons, and graphics with sharp edges.
WebP supports both lossy and lossless compression and transparency. It often gives smaller file sizes than PNG or JPG at similar quality, and modern browsers and many platforms support it well.
Use JPG for typical photos, PNG when you need transparency or lossless quality, and WebP when you want a good balance of quality and size for the web. Many image hosts, including Image Store, accept all of these formats.
